I met Commandant McDermott in 2000 in Kosovo when I was posted with the British army. Michael and his men accepted me in their barracks as a friend on many occasions and I have visited several of them in Ireland since my deployment. Michael was a true gentleman and top soldier. I have fond memories of that difficult tour. I have a great picture of him if any family would like to see it?

Mrs McDermott and family

I worked alongside Lt Col McDermott when he was a Commandant back in the late 90s in 'Q' Amnin in Colaiste Caoimhin, Glasnevin. I have to say he was one of the nicest kindest officers I ever worked alongside. He always had a kind word for all the staff in the office and loved joining in the fun.

I will never forget the moment I heard of his passing, shocked, disbelife, and to say sad would be an understatement. My thouthts were and still are with you and your family.

I pray that you and your children find the strength to cope. I will light a candle for you all in the Garrison Church in McKee Bks.

Kind regards,

Cpl Dennis Farrell.

Barrack Personnal Support NCO

McKee Bks & DFHQ

Thinking of you all
Dear Ann, Eoghan, Niamh, Doireann and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. Michael sent me a wonderful letter when my father John Harbourne passed away, it was very sincere and encouraging and I was very touched by his words of wisdom. I will always remember it and hold it close to my heart. He was obviously a very kind man and we will miss him. With all our love and heartfelt sympathy, Louise and Tony Amato
