A great figure in Irish Drama

I send my sincerest condolences to Phyllis's family on the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and one of the great figures of Irish theatre in the last century. Phyllis boldly went where the subsidised theatre was too feeble to go, and her legacy will equal her courage.

I very much regret that I shall be unable to attend her funeral. May she rest in peace.

Kindest regards,

Peter Thompson, Irish Press theatre reviewer, 1983-'89. Address: No. 12, Ferrybank, Arklow, Co. Wicklow.
