On hearing of Jim's death

Deirdre, my thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. My memories of Jim are of a gracious, humane, courageous, humorousand kind man. I worked for him while he was head of the European Commission in the UK and will never forget how he supportedand encouraged me. He was a beacon of integrity and decency and there were not many like him.

Jim Dougal - one of the world's great broadcasters

It is with deep regret that I heard of the death of Jim Dougal, a great friend and colleague who I first met when I worked alongside him when he was with RTE and I was the Daily Mail's Ireland Staff London Reporter during 1986-1990. I also worked alongsidehim at BBC Northern Ireland when I was on the newsdesk andreporting for Good Morning Ulster. Jim was a great international RTE and BBC broadcaster whoi was political editor and Anchor, subsequently Head of the EU Office in Belfast and London, and then returning to reportingfor UTV,one of the best. Deepest symapthies to his family.

GB
