KIRWAN/Ó CIARUÁIN Anne (Twentieth Anniversary) - Remembered with love by Wally, Colm, Eilis, Eileen, Danny, Joan and many relatives and friends. The Wind Messages - in memory of Anne Kirwan
Dear Anne, from a seawrack of memories, just two:
First, a sun-kindled bay and a small yellow boat,
A sudden offshore gust had carried you far out...
That time the ploys of nature did no harm
And you sailed back with sixteen years of life,
And life exumberantly was always what you gave.
But in that frail inflatable death dropped a lethal hint.
Next, the Summer of 84.
You left our house high on its hill as a brief southern sunset fell
And walked, laughing with friends down the long slope.
Then far below, by some ventriloquism, of the wind,
Through a gap in a toppling dry-stone wall,
Your voice was snatched and swept back up the hill,
Like a bird bearing a message of love in its beak.
Now you are forever out of earshot
And a flash flood has swallowed up your brain
And uprooted all our lives.
Yet above the deluge we still hear your voice. Dear Anne.
- Rory Brennan.
