My wonderful friend and mentor.

I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the death of my wonderful friend and mentor Joe Mc Ardle. Bequeathed to me by our late and much loved companion Colm Reid, Joe was only not one of the great conversationalist's but also by far the most outstandingly compassionate 'intellectual' I have ever met.

A friend through thick and thin he never rushed to judge or to hand out ill thought advice. A companion of great wisdom and tolerance he made it clear to me that his door was always open and his guidance generously available. Just knowing that was a wonderful gift in itself. I'm only sorry now that I didn't avail of it more often, but then again it is all the more precious for all that. Rest in Peace.
