RICE (John Valentine) (Leixlip, Co. Kildare and formerly of Abbeydorney, Co. Kerry) - September 15, 2006, (suddenly) while visiting Boston, Professor Emeritus of Higher Education and Senior Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin, scholar, philosopher, historian, teacher, mentor, aesthete, musician, defender of the Liffey Valley, but most of all, gentle family man. Val will be sadly missed by his wife Ellen, sons David and Jonathan, daughter Elizabeth, daughters-in-law Naomi and Valerie, son-in-law Donagh, grandchildren Nathaniel and Ashira, Aisling and Niamh, brothers David and Michael, sisters Ina and Annette, in-laws, many nieces and nephews, other family members, colleagues, and a wide circle of dear friends. His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and other staff of the Cardiac Surgical Recovery Unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for the exceptional medical care he received and for the kindness they showed us, during his hospital stay. Val's remains will be removed next Thursday morning, September 28, to St Teresa's Church, Clarendon Street, Dublin 2, for Requiem Mass at 11 o'clock and will be removed the following day, Friday, September 29, to St Bernard's Church, Abbeydorney, Co. Kerry arriving at 7 o'clock Funeral Mass will be held at 11 o'clock on Saturday, September 30, with interment immediately afterwards at Kyrie Eleison Abbey, Abbeydorney."Requiescat in pace."
