de BREFFNY, Ulli (née Castren) Ulli died on September 5 2011, quickly and peacefully in Gozo, Malta, where she had been living for the past seven and a half years, following her departure from Dublin. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Ira Donner, Lena Scurfield and Celia Lillas. Her daughter Tora Cassola predeceased her. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, Johnny, Sean, Nina, Spencer, Hannah, Amy, Thomas, Anders, Mick and Jack, as well as 6 great grandchildren and her sons-in-law, Otto, Matthew and Walter. Her funeral will take place in Helsinki in early October.

<p>My deepest condolences</p> <div> <p>Dear Ira, Lena and Celia,</p> <p>Your Mother's husband, Brian De Breffny, visited my Grandmother in Moscow, Russia. Although I know the wonderful story of his contacts with my Great-grandmother, I did not have a chance to meet him then, as the Soviets did not encourage contacts with foreigners and I was a Professor in one of the leading universities and so was under a magnifying glass... I talked to Ulli several times on the phone, but never managed to travel to Ireland or to Malta.</p> <p>Now Tatyana McCoy, who is writing yet another story about my Great-grandmother, contacted me, so I began searching for answers, and saw what extraordinary and wonderful people your Mother and Brian were and how much they have done for Irish History and Culture. I would be very happy if you could tell me anything you know about the past.
