GLACKEN, Brendan (late of Kenilworth Lane, Rathgar, Dublin 6), died February 16, 2009. As Brendan's first anniversary approaches Patricia Mc Kay, Ruth, Ross and Nick Glacken together with Brendan's sisters Marita and Triona and his brother Paul extend our thanks to our families, relatives, friends and colleagues and to Brendan's colleagues in The Oireachtas, Irish Times and his friends at Rathgar Tennis Club whose kindness, concern and support both practical and emotional helped us in so many ways during Brendan's long illness and untimely death on February 16, 2009. Thanks to the many people who attended Brendan's wake and funeral service, those who travelled long distances and those who joined us from abroad, UK, USA, Scotland, Japan, New Zealand, France, Brazil and Australia via the parish internet website at Mount Argus. Our thanks to those who called to our home, sent letters, texts, phone calls and Mass Cards and who gave so generously to Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross, Dublin. Particular thanks to Fr Joe Kennedy CP, St Paul of the Cross, Mount Argus who facilitated the celebration of Brendan's life and to Fr Noel Redmond CSSP and Fr Sean Bredin, Order of St Camillus who concelebrated the Mass. We appreciate and thank soloist Carol Anne Duffy and organist David McConnell for the wonderful music. We were very moved by Nick's friends from Blackrock College who formed the Guard of Honour for Brendan. We appreciate the commitment of the medical profession who cared for Brendan with kindness - Dr Peter O'Sullivan GP, Mr Steven Young, Beaumont Hospital, Mr David Fennelly and his team at St Vincent's Hospital, Mr Armstrong and his team at St Luke's Hospital and finally Mr Liam O'Siorain, Kate McLoughlin, Ray Cero and the Hospice team including the volunteers at Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross where Brendan spent his final months. Most of all we honour Brendan's memory and remember how his glass was always half full. He never lost his quirky sense of humour and consequently made walking alongside him during his long illness easier for us.On late evenings when quiet
inhabits my garden,
When grass sleeps,
And streets are only paths for
silent mist,
I seem to remember,
Smiling.
