CAIRNS (Mil) (Mal) (Croaghpatrick Road and formerly Santry) (Station Officer Dublin Fire Brigade) (Died July 23, 2006) - Mil's wife Cora, brothers Gerard and Fredrick thank all who sympathised with them on their recent sad, tragic loss. To those who sent Mass and sympathy cards, floral tributes, wrote letters and telephoned, visited the house, attended the removal and funeral Mass, many of whom travelled long journeys to be with us on this sad occasion, thank you. We would also like to thank the staff of Blanchardstown Hospital, Elm Ward for their kindness and care to Mil during his short stay there. Also the nursing staff of Cappagh Hospital, in particular Margaret Cavanagh, for her unconditional care and kindness to Mil and for her support to Cora. Thanks also to Donna in Orthotics for her drive, motivation and re-introduction of 'independent' life to Mil. Our thanks to Lanigans Funeral Home, Fassaugh Avenue for the dignified way they dealt with the funeral. To the priests of the Parish, in particular Fr Cassidy and Fr Gaynor, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for the magnificent funeral ceremonies. To all who participated in the Mass and to Paul and Karen for their beautiful music, thank you. A very special thank you to Mr Gabriel Howley, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, who delivered a very moving eulogy. Cora would also like to extend a special thank you to her family, her many friends, and her very kind neighbours for their support and generosity particularly during the past number of months. We extend our sincere thanks to Mil's colleagues and friends in SIPTU and Dublin City Council, his comrades in the FCA, and his many extended work acquaintances for their support to Mil during his illness. A sincere thank you to District Officer Stephen Brady, Dublin Fire Brigade for the precision and sensitivity in handling the funeral logistics, to the members of Dublin Fire Brigade for the guard of honour, to the Fire Brigade Piper, to the Dublin Fire Brigade Sports and Social Club, to Richard Hederman and Terry Kearney for their help and support, to the Garda Síochána from Cabra Station, and a special thanks to Phillip and Denis, his close work colleagues for their friendship and support over the last few months. A special mention for Mick Corcoran, Mil's life long friend and work colleague, whose support through the last few difficult months was invaluable. Mil was so proud to be a member of Dublin Fire Brigade, how appropriate and fitting that the Fire Brigade honoured Mil's dedication and loyalty in such a memorable manner for his final journey.
