"Procrastination is the thief of time"

On our first day in first year Gerry Haugh came into the class room in true dramatic fashion and promptly told us all to stand on our desks and look around the room. He wanted us to see things from a different perspective…

Throughout my time in the college he constantly challenged me to look at things from all angles and not accepted being spoon fed; always challenging me to form opinions for myself, to think things through and to take time in doing so.

We were privileged to have him as our Form Tutor and I can say without hesitation that next to my parents Gerry Haugh was the single greatest influence on my formative years. His care and attention to detail has afforded me life long friends, bound by memories of Oakwood, Ballinskelligs, Budapest, Paris, Block Pulls, Cast Parties and DMCs.

Words cannot do justice to a man who taught us how to read and write, and to find joy in doing so, even if no one relished the prospect of an eight page essay every weekend.

Gerry taught us how to live by right ways, how to look at the world and see our opportunity to make it better. This was his most important lesson and one which will stay with me all of my days.

Thank you Gerry

Simon Wilson O.B '03

A wonderful man, we're the poorer without him

I'm stunned, Gerry seemed in such normal shape just ten days ago at the Pickwick Papers. He made a huge difference to my time in Belvedere, he will leave a vast void for all those kids who will miss what he brought to the school
