A wonderful teacher and a kind and decent man

Gerry Haugh was a memorable teacher at Belvedere, one who gave me and generations of kids confidence in getting on stage and singing and acting to a level we didn't know we could reach.

He could be tough when a group of kids needed to focus, but he was also exceedingly kind and interested in all of us. I still have the copy of Ulysses he gave me when I left Belvedere to go to Australia.

I am only sorry I was never able to meet up with him on subsequent trips back to Ireland, but he remains fondly in my thoughts and I owe him a great deal.

Like all his former pupils, I pass on my best wishes and condolences to his family and friends.

Andrew McGarry

Belvedere 1985-1988
