SCULLY (Maxie) (Kilconieran, Craughwell, and formerly "Silverfort", Gort, Co. Galway, who died following a long and courageous battle against illness on the August 12, 2006) - On this his First Anniversary the family would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the medical and nursing staff for their professionalism, their dedication and their care of Maxie throughout his life. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Brendan Duffy and to the nursing staff at Merlin Park Hospital, Galway who looked after Maxie following his initial collapse on October 17, 1974. To the late Dr. Sean Hanson and Dr. John Donoghue, Jervis Street Hospital, Dublin who performed his kidney transplant on November 27, 1975 and to the nursing staff at St. Mary's Hospital, Phoenix Park, Dublin. The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thanks to Mr. Dennis Murphy and to the nursing staff in his "second-home", the Bon Secours Hospital, Glasnevin, Dublin, the nursing staff in St. Damian's Ward, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, and to Mr. Maurice Slapak (England). We would like to thank Dr. Bhatti and the staff at the Village Nursing Home for their kindness, care and understanding. A special word of thanks to Dr. Raymond Piggott, Gort, to Dr. Gordon Pate, nurse Margaret Mulcaire and the nursing staff in the O'Malley Ward, Galway Clinic for their wonderful care of Maxie, and the support they gave to the family. Our sincere thanks to the Most Rev. John Kirby, Bishop of Clonfert, Very Rev. Canon Michael Kelly, Gort, Very Rev. Fr. Joe Roche P.P., Kilfeonara, Very Rev. Richard Higgins, P.P., Ardrahan, Very Rev. Fr. Cathal Stanley, Abbey-Duniry, Very Rev. Fr. Slevin, Castleknock College who concelebrated Requiem Mass. We would also like to thank Mr. Padraic Cawley, Craughwell for his sensitivity and his professionalism throughout the funeral arrangements. Our thanks to Mr. Ian Cahill, to the Gort Choir, Ms. Rosemaire Hosty, soloist, Ms Catriona Baker, violinist, Ms. Deirdre Stephenson, harpist and Ms. Isolde Corkery, music co-ordinator for the beautiful hymns, singing and music throughout the Mass. Our thanks to Michael Blake who presided over the presentation of the gifts at the Mass, for all of those assisted with the presentation of the gifts, the prayers of the faithful and our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Gaby Slapak for her moving tribute of Maxie. Our thanks to the South Galway Pony Club, the Slieve Aughty Riding Club, to Maxie's contemporaries from the County Galway Hunt Pony Club for organising and forming the Guard of Honour on the day of his funeral, to Batty Cawley for leading "King Cotton" and the Garda Síochána, Gort. A very special word of thanks to Mr. Ned Linnane, Mr. Peter Shaughnessy, Mr. P.J. Mahony, Mr. Mossy Helley and their families who granted us permission to spread Maxie's ashes across their lands at Tuilira, Ardrahan on the February 25, 2007 and to Garda Padraig Mulloy, Craughwell for his assistance on that date. We are extremely grateful to everyone who travelled from overseas and to those of you who visited, wrote, sent Mass cards, attended the removal and funeral, and the scattering of his ashes, those of you who made donations to his nominated charity and who have continued to express their sympathy and kindness in various and many ways. The family would like to pay tribute to Gerry Mc Garry for his many acts of kindness and friendship to Maxie throughout his life and his care and devotion to him during his final days. We would also like to thank him for his invaluable assistance with all the arrangements. A final word of thanks to our own wonderful friends and colleagues who sustained and supported us in so many ways throughout Maxie's illness and indeed continue to do so. No words of ours will ever be sufficient to express our gratitude to you all. An Anniversary Mass will be offered for Maxie on Saturday August 11, 2007 at 9 o'clock at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Donnybrook, Dublin 4.
