The Fauna of Ireland

In the long ago, when I was a practising national teacher, his book 'The Fauna of Ireland' was my first serious introduction to the wildlife of Ireland and I was particularly taken by his entry on bank voles. It took almost 40 years to encounter any but, to my delight, I came across a few at my feet some months ago when walking with my daughter along the level below Curtlestown on part of the Wicklow way.
