THOMPSON (née Deacon), Dr. Ethel Patricia Lewis (Pat), of Howth, Co. Dublin (formerly Bunclody, Co. Wexford), died August 21, 2010, aged 91, surrounded by family and in the wonderful care of Brymore Nursing Home, Howth, Co. Dublin. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Professor E.W.L. Thompson, late Master of the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, and founder Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Lagos University Teaching Hospital College of Medicine, Nigeria. In addition to her brother, Ken Deacon of Claudy, Co. Derry, and her sister, Bee Syms of Stillorgan, Co. Dublin, she is survived by her son John Thompson of Brisbane, Australia, and daughters Ann O'Callaghan of Howth, Co. Dublin, and Elizabeth McGrath of Boston, USA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Olwen, Niall and David O'Callaghan of Howth, Co. Dublin, Gabrielle and Lauren Thompson of Brisbane, Australia, Simon and Eva McGrath of Boston, USA, and her great-grandchild, Lara Thompson, of Brisbane, Australia. At her own request her body has been donated to the College of Surgeons for medical research. Family members and friends will be invited to a celebration of her life to be held in October 2010.
