FARRELL William (Willie) (former senator) (died April 8, 2010) Formerly of Silverhill, Ballinfull, Co. Sligo, 3 Glasmeen Rd., Glasnevin, Dublin 11, and 5 Mullaghmore Rd., Cliffoney, Co. Sligo, will be sadly missed by his loving sons, Seamus and Liam, daughter Helen and their families. We, the family, would like to sincerely thank all those who supported us with kind words, Mass cards and generous donations to the Irish Motor Neurone Association. We would also like to express our deep appreciation to our extended family, friends, neighbours, Willie's colleagues, the kind staff of Summerville Nursing Home, Strandhill, who looked after Willie so well during his last few months, and the staff of Coronary Care at Sligo General Hospital, for their attentive care during his final days. We would like to offer a special word of thanks to Fr Eoghan Haughey, a lifelong friend who travelled to be with Willie at the time of his death. A beautiful celebration of Willie's life was held at Grange Church with the assistance of Fr Christy McHugh who lead the homily, and also with the assistance of the concelebrating priests. The spirit of the people of Grange was captured in the guard of honour that was organised, which included the then tanaiste Mary Coughlan, along with ministers, TD's, senators, and local councillors, members of Ireland's Auctioneering Community, friends from the local area and members of the One Armed Golfing Association. The family would also like to thank the then taoiseach Brian Cowen who was represented by his aide-de-camp, Comdt Michael Treacy. Also a special thanks to Dr. Jimmy Devins, who spoke so wonderfully about Willie's life at his grave side. As it is not possible to thank everyone individually please accept this acknowledgement as a token of our sincere gratitude and appreciation for your kind words and deeds which brought us great comfort during a very difficult time. As an appreciation of your respect for Willie, and the sympathy showed to us the family, a mass is being offered for your intentions.
