FLYNN (Martin A., M.D.) - September 16, 2005, Dr Martin A. Flynn, resident of San Marino California, United States of America for over 45 years, passed away, surrounded by his family. Born on August 2, 1931 in Lackagh, Turloughmore, Co. Galway, Ireland, he immigrated to the United States with his wife Ella in 1954. Dr. Flynn graduated and received his medical degree from the National University of Ireland at Galway. He then went on to specialize in opthalmology and graduated from the University of Illinois, completed his residency at the Chicago Eye and Ear Institute and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He practiced ophthalmology in Pasadena for over 45 years, and was a member of staff of Huntington Memorial and St Luke's Hospitals. He was an avid rugby player throughout his youth, and played for the University team. Dr Flynn's most important pursuit was serving his patients in the Pasadena Community. Dr Flynn will be truly missed by his beloved wife of 48 years, Ella McInerney Flynn of San Marino California, formerly of Ennistymon, Co Clare, his devoted five children Michael Flynn of Pasadena CA, Patricia Kemp of Greenwich, CT, John Flynn of Burlingame, CA, Brian Flynn of Laguna Beach, CA and Elizabeth Granville Smith of New York, NY, brothers and sister Dr Michael Flynn of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Richard Kearney Flynn of Glasson, Co. Westmeath, Dr Betty O'Malley of Westport, Co. Mayo, and Thomas Flynn of Lackagh, Turloughmore, Co. Galway, eight grandchildren, sons-in-law, and daughter-in-law, and nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 o'clock on September 21, at St Philip the Apostle Church, 151 S. Hill Avenue, Pasadena, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in memory of Martin A. Flynn, M.D., Memorial, c/o Huntington Hospital Office of Philanthropy, 100 West California Bvld. Pasadena, CA 91105. Private interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cabot and Sons, Pasadena Directors.
