FLANAGAN, Gertrude (Carrabawn, Westport, Co Mayo) (November 3, 2009) - The family of our dear mother Gertrude would like to thank most sincerely all those who sympathised with them in their recent sad bereavement, those who attended the removal in Dublin to the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Merrion Road and the removal and funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, Westport. We were very grateful for all the Mass cards received, the bouquets of flowers and letters of sympathy. We acknowledge especially the excellent staff of The Marlay Nursing Home, Dublin, as well as the medical and nursing staff of Our Lady's Ward at St Vincent's University Hospital who cared for Gertrude with such kindness in her final illness. We would particularly like to thank Dr Desmond Kelly, Westport who gave such care and attention to our mother over so many years. We will always be grateful to the carers who looked after Gertie in her own home in Carrabawn. A special word of thanks to Fr Fergus O'Connor P.P., Our Lady Queen of Peace, Merrion Road, Fr Philip Griffin, and the many concelebrants who officiated at her funeral. We especially appreciated the presence of Msgr Robert Bucciarelli and all the priests of Opus Dei, and Gertie's old friends from former years, especially Fr Martin Hannon, Tuam and Fr Tom Dowd, Dublin. Heartfelt thanks also to Fr Frank Molloy CSSP, for paying respect to an esteemed Carrabawn resident. We thank particularly Fr Micheal Mannion for officiating at Mam's funeral Mass in Westport and for giving such an appropriate and consoling tribute. Our thanks are also due to Fr Francis Mitchell, Adm. Westport , Fr Vincent Kelly and Fr Donncha O hAodha who participated in the Requiem Mass and the wonderful choir and organist of St Mary's Church, Mr Gabriel Kelly, who added immensely to the prayerfulness of the occasion. Our special gratitude is due to the loyal communities of Westport, Newport and Louisburgh who turned out in such great numbers in tribute to Gertie; she and her late husband Patrick (whose anniversary is today, March 6, 1998) would have immensely appreciated the honour paid to her. We were very appreciative of the attention of the staff of Massey Brothers Undertakers, Dublin and Tom Navin Undertakers, Westport. Thanks are due to all our relatives and friends who travelled long distances to attend Gertie's funeral. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass has been offered for all your intentions.
