GILLEN Michael "Chick". Chick's family wishes to thank, sincerely, all those who called to the door, observing social distancing, who phoned, who sent flowers, cards, gifts and food, who wrote beautiful messages and who turned out to applaud him on his final journey. We especially want to thank an Garda Siochána and the Galway Fire Brigade for not only escorting Chick to the church, and then to his final resting place, but also for turning out on a bank holiday Monday to salute his cortege as it passed their respective stations. We also wish to thank P.P. Fr. Martin, the Parish Secretary, and Fr. Jose, for live-streaming his Mass, thus enabling his many family members and hundreds of friends, both at home and abroad, to participate in his funeral Mass. Huge thanks must go to Séan, Mary and the wonderful staff in Kilcolgan Nursing Home, for their love and excellent care of Chick during his last years. We would further like to thank Catriona, Willy and Mike from The O'Flaherty Funeral Home, especially for facilitating his family, so sensitively, during these difficult Covid times. Finally, the family wishes to thank Chick's devoted friends, Martin Badger and Séan Courtney, for organising the route of his final journey, whereby many of those who loved and respected him could say their final good-byes. Chick's Month's Mind Mass will be held on Saturday, July 4, at 9.30am, in Mervue Parish Church. A life well-lived is a precious gift,
Filled with hope, strength and grace,
Someone who has made our world
A brighter, better place.
