Memories of Mr Quinn

Mr Quinn was my Oxbridge/Special Level English tutor at Loreto. I have happy memories of him explaining the "Mediaeval concept of Man", on the dark winter evenings of 1978, during the strikes. I got a top grade, and a great love of the subject,so have much to be thankful for in him. He was a legendary teacher, and very kind and modest. He had to police the high jinks in the girls' dorm at some freezing convent retreat in Leeds. Too modest to enter the room, he stood outside and expostulated helplessly. but we so respected him, that we did calm down, without the need for the more severe discipline or threats. A few years ago I accidentally repeated his most legendary stunt of wearing odd shoes to school (for by a strange quirk of fate, I followed him into the profession). Rest in Peace.
