I knew Cathal 50 years ago in Heidelberg. I am so sad to hear of his death (how?) He was such a warm funny lovely guy, and a very good friend to me, and I so regret not keeping up. Heartfelt condolences – Robert Jenkins, West Yorkshire, UK

I am deeply saddened to hear of Cathal’s death. Cathal had an enormously positive impact on my life, in Galway and later in Heidelberg. He was a generous man who cherished lifelong friendships. He loved his family. Lar Morahan
