Knowing Ruth, my mother’s sister, all of my life, I am sad that she is no longer with us. She was my first Sunday School teacher in Merrion Gospel Hall in 1954. She was founding leader of Merrion Hall Junior Choir, a teacher at the Sunday School together with her late brother Victor & an accomplished pianist for the Tuesday Night children’s meetings. She was an annual worker in fund raising carol singing for the Adelaide Hospital around south Dublin for many years & also sang on the Hospitals radio station with Merrion Hall Choir. Later in life she would often stay with me in Bath every six weeks when she was UK credit controller for a well known Irish shipping company. Thankfully her closest niece my dear kind & loving cousin Janice cared for her for many years in ways often far beyond the call of duty, through thick and thin & was close by her side on an almost daily basis during the last months & days of her life. Her husband Stuart & their two children Richard & Rebecca together with partner & fiancée Elaine and Chris spent many hours, day after day, sitting with her & caring for her right to the end for the last five months. Thank God for their compassion, unconditional & devoted love. I am in their awe and full of admiration. Sister in law Anne prayed with her last week which was a comfort. A kind & very generous lady to the end of her days. She is to be buried with her parents (our grandparents) also beside my mother. “They shall see His face” David Edwards
