McGIBNEY - Tom (Thomas), (Glenageary, Co. Dublin, ESB International, ESB Transmission, Dun Laoghaire Golf Club)(Died August 30, 2020) – As we remember Tom, a loving husband, father, grandad, brother and friend, Tom’s wife, Helen, and family; Karen, Mark and Derek, and extended family, Ger O’Connor, Celine and HauYin Ko, and grandchildren, would like to thank everyone who sympathised with us on our heartfelt loss. We thank especially all those who attended the funeral mass, friends and colleagues who stood outside the church, and those that travelled to Mount Jerome. Thank you to our very kind friends and neighbours and to the many people, who made contact by phone, who sent flowers, Mass cards, sympathy cards and letters of condolence. Special thanks to Fr. Murney, who officiated at the funeral Mass and gave us all the time we needed for our formal farewell. Thanks to harpist, Orla Fallon whose music and beautiful singing carried us through. We wish to express our gratitude to the nursing and care staff of Leopardstown Hospital where Tom was cared for, during his last 18 months, with special regard for Mary Byrne, his Speech Therapist, whose positivity and dedication was always a joy. We are also grateful to the palliative care team in St Vincents University Hospital who gave Tom every dignity in his last week, (and a room with a view of the golf course). Special thanks to all those who cared for Tom during his time in the stroke unit of SVUH. While it was a difficult journey, we met so many wonderful carers, who looked after Tom, when we couldn’t, to whom we are eternally grateful, with special acknowledgement to those who stepped in, and up to be family to him during the painful separation imposed by Covid restrictions. Thank you to Quinns Funeral Home in Glasthule for their personal attention to all the funeral arrangements. Please accept this acknowledgement as a token of our sincere appreciation and a mass will be offered for your intentions. First Anniversary Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 28, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Killiney.
