McCARTHY, Sr. Carmel (formerly Fenagh, Co. Carlow, and Sisters of Mercy, 8 Eblana Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin) - July 10, 2022. Pre-deceased by her parents Peadar and Kathleen, her sisters Ann O’Reilly, Clare Brennan and her brother-in-law Edmond O’Reilly. Deeply regretted by her Mercy Sisters, her sister Mary, (Lavin), brother Michael, sister-in-law Kathleen McCarthy, brothers-in-law John (Lavin), Martin (Brennan), niece Tríona, nephews Cormac, Patrick, Peter, Billy, Padraic, Peadar, Conor, Edmond and Ciaran, grandnieces, grandnephews, her extended family and a large circle of friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis. Reposing at Quinn’s Funeral Home in Glasthule from 1-3pm today (Monday) July 11, 2022. Funeral Mass will be celebrated tomorrow (Tuesday) July 12, in St. Joseph’s Church, Glasthule, at 11.30am which can be viewed on www.churchservices.tv/glasthule followed by burial in her family cemetery, St. Patrick’s Church, Newtown, Muine Bheag, Co. Carlow R21P206

Sister Carmel McCarthy was the best and kindest of colleagues in Carysfort. Always discreet, she wore her learning lightly, but she was a Hebrew scholar of distinction,as evidenced by her membership of the Royal Irish Academy. May she rest in peace.
