Father Stephen Redmond

For some reason, I was thinking about a wonderful elderly Irish Roman Catholic, Father Stephen Redmond SJ., whom I knew many years ago in the early 1970s and we became good friends. I lost track of him when I moved to California in 1974. I decided to search for him today and learned that he died peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2017 in the loving care of the Nurses and staff of Cherryfield Nursing Home in Dublin, Ireland, his home.

While in Zambia, Father Stephen wrote a musical on the resurrection after the likes of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar. It was a beautifully composed cantata and accompanied by our musical group, The 4+2 we recorded some of the songs at the Baptist Studios in Lusaka. He played the piano and I played the guitar. My favorite song, which I still sing is called "Kidron". The Kidron Valley has a stream and the valley is near the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed the night before he was crucified. I enjoyed playing the song and Father Stephen had some unique guitar chord progressions which were quite exciting for me. I have always had pleasant memories of Father Stephen and am forever thankful for his friendship.

- Wynegood G. Malunga Kitwe, Zambia

I've been looking for Father Redmond for many years. We knew each other quite well here in Zambia. He wrote a musical and my friends and I teamed up with him and recorded some of the songs. He was such a lovely man admired by many of us.
