FARHAT, Hormoz (Rathmines, originally of Tehran, Iran), peacefully at home in Dublin, on August 16, 2021, at the age of 93, after a long illness borne bravely. Sadly missed by his wife Maria Baghramian, his son Robert Farhat, and many friends, former students and family across three continents. Hormoz Farhat had lived in Ireland since 1979, first as a Senior Research Fellow at the Queens University of Belfast, followed by his appointment to the Chair of Music at Trinity College Dublin. Previously, he was a member of the Music Faculty at University of California, Los Angeles, followed by a period of return to his native country in the 1970s, where he served as Professor and Head of the Music Department at University of Tehran, Chairman of the Music Council at the National Iranian Radio and Television Organization and was centrally involved in the music programming of the Shiraz Festival. May he Rest in Peace. Due to current restrictions a private funeral will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at 10.00am. I’m deeply saddened by the news of passing of Prof Farhat. The Iranian Community in Dublin has lost a great man. His contribution to music worldwide and especially to Persian Music has brought us joy and honour. May he rest in peace. Neda

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Hormoz. I remember him fondly as a kind, gentle and caring man. My sincere condolences to Maria, Robert and his extended family across the globe. Eithne Graham-​White.
