O'MAHONY - John, Tower House, Ballaghaderreen, who died on 6 July 2024. Remembering John on the first anniversary of his death, his wife Gerardine, daughters Grainne, Niamh, Rhona, Deirdre, Cliodhna, sons-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, Fr Dan and Fr Stephen and the extended O'Mahony and Towey families. Thank you to all who have sympathised, supported and contacted us in the days, weeks and months following John's death, our family, friends and neighbours, John's colleagues in St. Nathy's College, Fine Gael and the wider political community and the GAA community in Ballaghaderreen, Ireland and around the world. Your support and compassion have carried us through this difficult year and we have been so moved by the many tributes paid to John, in the media, club and county grounds around the country, Croke Park, on the roads from University Hospital Galway to Ballaghaderreen as his cortege passed through and in the many beautiful letters and messages we have received sharing memories of John's life and legacy.
Thank you to all who joined in and assisted with the celebration of John's life in the days of his Funeral, Frs O'Mahony, Towey, Kivlehan and Donnellan and the many other priests who concelebrated his Funeral Mass, the readers, musicians, sacristans, guards of honour, members of An Garda SÃochána, the team at Kilgarriff Undertakers and the many people who joined with us to sympathise and celebrate John's life.
Finally, we would like to thank all of the medical professionals for their outstanding care of John and the wider family including those at the Galway Clinic and University Hospital Galway and especially the staff of the Claddagh Ward, Dr Krawczyk, Prof Donnellan, Drs Meagher and Garvey, the Community nurses and Grainne and Cormac Murphy and their team.
As it is not possible to thank everyone individually, to everyone who supported John and our family, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our deepest gratitude and appreciation.
John's Anniversary Mass will be held on Saturday, 5 July 2025 at 6pm in the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nathy, Ballaghaderreen.
