A Professional Officer with a gift of wit

I knew Johnny Cargin at Sandhurst where we were both instructors...myself an exchange officer from the US Military Academy. Johnny new his military profession quite well. But more than that he had a charming wit about him that endeared him to so many of us. He spoke his mind but in a way that made you chuckle while, as in British folklore, you got the point days later. I hadn't seen him since I left England in 1975 but have thought of him often and mourn his untimely death. Rest in peace Johnny!

A gentleman soldier in the Irish Military tradition

I wont forget the kindness Johnny showed me when I was researching his Grandfather Lieut Vincent M Morrogh late The Connaught Rangers. He invited me to a passing out parade at Sandhurst which was quite an amazing day. Nine members of the Morrogh family had attended my old School Castleknock and had made a major sacrifice in the Great War.
