May I add my deepest sympathies. He was exemplary in his national leadership roles and at the Mater Hospital for years - particularly after I started there. Forward thinking and always looking to progress the hospital's services e.g. the first High Dependency Unit at the hospital and in the country. I remember him also orchestrating, in a time of financial constraints, the purchase the hospital's first echocardiogram for Intensive Care. All considered radical at the time but now regarded as standard of care. Condolences to all of his family on the sad passing of Joe, a fine doctor, medical leader and gentleman.
